!How to do Subtraction and Addition!

Last week, we started learning subtraction and addition with bar models.  We made bar models with snap cubes, paper strips and white boards.  Also, we had math partners.  Together we shared what we learned.  

Math Facts Morning Madness

Today we learned different math fact combinations.  First, we were given a sheet with many facts.  Next we cut the facts into flash cards.  Finally, we placed them in a variety of categories:

*Combinations that equal 10

*Doubles

*10 plus combinations

*Near doubles

*9 plus combinations.

We will use these cards a variety of times over then next couple weeks to help us master our addition facts!

Gooney Bird Greene

Last week, we celebrated Gooney Bird Greene Day.  While reading the book, we learned many good writing/story telling techniques:

*Add details

*Have a beginning, middle and end

*Start with a catchy title

*Make it suspenseful

*Add dialog

*Use the word SUDDENLY!

In addition, we learned that another word for math is "arithmetic"!
